Young Girls and Lingerie

September 1st, 2008 by T

I have noticed lately that there seems to be plenty of controversy over how old a girl should be before companies market bras geared to the younger set. I would think that by about twelve or thirteen most mothers would agree to letting her child wear a bra but it appears as though some companies have focused on girls as young as seven. But aside from taking a stand on what age a young girl should wear a bra, I decided to look at trends in teen lingerie.

Reds seem to be a popular colour this year in bras and underpants. WetSeal.com offers some really cute panties in various prints such as stripes, sandal motifs, baby girl hearts, and star patterns. Bright, fun colours, a mix of string ties and lace waists, and thong or boy short cuts make this collection very appealing to a younger group.

Further, young girls’ intimates seem to be a mix of whimsy with cute patterns and also serious looks in solid colours. Like their mothers, bras are not just a necessity but also a fashion statement. But one thing most girls do not want is a bra that looks like a training bra. So going straight to the source, I decided to check a couple teen blogs and found that many young girls, who bought bras and panties online, were shopping at FigLeaves.com, HerRoom.com and BareNecessities.com.

Most young girls are probably influenced by “personalities” in their general age group as well. Singers, actresses and high profile girls will all wear bras and undies that that their fans will adore. So anything with the personality’s name attached to a garment will become an instant success. Celebrities will define what colours and patterns are in vogue. Just think about when every young girl had to have everything in pink.

Whatever, the younger set chooses as their foundation garments, they should be sure to pick items that fit properly and are age appropriate.
